Mount Vernon is a NSW suburb in Fairfield LGA, matched to postcode 2178 — also covering Cecil Park, Kemps Creek. New rental bonds in that postcode had a median weekly rent of $785 in 2025, up 20.8% from $650 in 2024. That is about 13% above the NSW median of $695. Bond medians describe new lodgements with Fair Trading, not every current lease in the suburb. Mount Vernon recorded 31 criminal incidents in the 12 months to March 2026, up 24.0% from 25 a year earlier. These are police-recorded incidents, not convictions, and they are not adjusted for how many people live or visit here. House bonds typically leased at $850 a week. Four-bedroom bonds sat at $1,000 a week. Half of new bonds sat between $642 and $1,100 a week. Fair Trading recorded 36 new bonds in the postcode in 2025. Over 2021–2025 the postcode median moved from $560 to $785 a week. Because several suburbs share the postcode, the rent charts are a postcode picture, not a street-level one. Property offences totalled 17 and violent-related offences 11. Theft made up the largest published share (14 incidents, 45%). Next was Intimidation, stalking and harassment (7). The crime series is coded to this suburb name; the rent series, where shown, is the whole postcode. The two windows are not identical: rents are calendar year, recorded crime is the 12 months to March 2026.
