Newtown is a NSW suburb in Sydney LGA, matched to postcode 2042 — also covering Enmore. New rental bonds in that postcode had a median weekly rent of $720 in 2025, up 3.6% from $695 in 2024. That is about 4% above the NSW median of $695. Bond medians describe new lodgements with Fair Trading, not every current lease in the suburb. Newtown recorded 2,285 criminal incidents in the 12 months to March 2026, up 14.3% from 1,999 a year earlier. These are police-recorded incidents, not convictions, and they are not adjusted for how many people live or visit here. House bonds typically leased at $910 a week and flats/units at $650. Townhouse bonds sat at $950 a week. Two-bedroom bonds had a median of $850; three-bedroom bonds $1,130. One-bedroom bonds sat at $600 a week. Four-bedroom bonds sat at $1,400 a week. Half of new bonds sat between $550 and $900 a week. Fair Trading recorded 1,772 new bonds in the postcode in 2025. Over 2021–2025 the postcode median moved from $515 to $720 a week. Because several suburbs share the postcode, the rent charts are a postcode picture, not a street-level one. Property offences totalled 765 and violent-related offences 384. Theft made up the largest published share (625 incidents, 27%). Next was Against justice procedures (493). The crime series is coded to this suburb name; the rent series, where shown, is the whole postcode.
