Pelican is a NSW suburb in Lake Macquarie LGA, matched to postcode 2281 — also covering Blacksmiths, Cams Wharf, Catherine Hill Bay and nearby localities. New rental bonds in that postcode had a median weekly rent of $655 in 2025, up 9.2% from $600 in 2024. That is about 6% below the NSW median of $695. Bond medians describe new lodgements with Fair Trading, not every current lease in the suburb. Pelican recorded 77 criminal incidents in the 12 months to March 2026, up 8.5% from 71 a year earlier. These are police-recorded incidents, not convictions, and they are not adjusted for how many people live or visit here. House bonds typically leased at $750 a week and flats/units at $540. Townhouse bonds sat at $600 a week. Two-bedroom bonds had a median of $570; three-bedroom bonds $698. One-bedroom bonds sat at $400 a week. Four-bedroom bonds sat at $900 a week. Half of new bonds sat between $550 and $850 a week. Fair Trading recorded 329 new bonds in the postcode in 2025. Over 2021–2025 the postcode median moved from $500 to $655 a week. Because several suburbs share the postcode, the rent charts are a postcode picture, not a street-level one. Property offences totalled 16 and violent-related offences 14. Other offences made up the largest published share (37 incidents, 48%). Next was Theft (15). The crime series is coded to this suburb name; the rent series, where shown, is the whole postcode.
