Barnsley is a NSW suburb in Lake Macquarie LGA, matched to postcode 2278 — also covering Killingworth, Wakefield. New rental bonds in that postcode had a median weekly rent of $608 in 2025, down 6.5% from $650 in 2024. That is about 12% below the NSW median of $695. Bond medians describe new lodgements with Fair Trading, not every current lease in the suburb. Barnsley recorded 73 criminal incidents in the 12 months to March 2026, up 25.9% from 58 a year earlier. These are police-recorded incidents, not convictions, and they are not adjusted for how many people live or visit here. House bonds typically leased at $615 a week. Half of new bonds sat between $586 and $695 a week. Fair Trading recorded 16 new bonds in the postcode in 2025. Over 2022–2025 the postcode median moved from $500 to $608 a week. Because several suburbs share the postcode, the rent charts are a postcode picture, not a street-level one. Property offences totalled 35 and violent-related offences 29. Theft made up the largest published share (30 incidents, 41%). Next was Assault (15). The crime series is coded to this suburb name; the rent series, where shown, is the whole postcode. The two windows are not identical: rents are calendar year, recorded crime is the 12 months to March 2026. Some person-offence categories are not itemised here because suburb geography under-counts them.
